Get The Most From Your Wi-Fi

Meeting Your Bandwidth Needs

Darien, CT – The pandemic certainly shook up the way we work and live. Now more than ever we are working from home and our children are splitting their time learning at school and at home. All smart devices in your home are eating up precious bandwidth. It’s important to note that the term “smart devices” no longer refers to just phones, tablets, and laptops.  Shades, lighting, security cameras, thermostats, alarm systems, streaming music & video players, refrigerators, TVs, and more are now connected to your network.

Combine all of that with the fact that there are more streaming services than ice cream flavors and the Network/Wi-Fi at your home is likely in over its head. How often are multiple people in your home streaming content simultaneously? It’s likely more often than you might think.

Helpful Wi-Fi Information

Large homes often need multiple antennas for complete coverage (wireless access points). At a basic level, 1 wireless access point (WAP) covers roughly 800-1000 sq ft. If you need wifi coverage for 3,000 sq ft and you don’t have multiple access points you likely don’t have proper coverage.

There are different Wi-Fi frequency bands, 2.4GHz, and 5GHz. Each band works differently, 2.4GHz provides a larger coverage area but does not offer top speeds. 5GHz provides top speeds available on your network but has much less range. Therefore, it is vital that we make a comprehensive Wi-Fi plan with adequate WAP’s to ensure proper Wi-Fi coverage.

Not all WAP’s are the same. Think of having a single light bulb in a room and how it cast light in all directions. This is how almost all residential level access points radiate their coverage. The enterprise WAP’s we use, direct their signal to your specific device. Up to as many as 4,096 individual specific directions can be targeted from each WAP to ensure you have the best connectivity possible.
